“We are sinking” and “no-agreement-text”- What is the relation between both ideas?

Following the global climate negotiations at the Bangkok intersessional meeting in September 2012, many questions are being asked in preparation for COP18 in Doha. Can we find any logical relationship between developed countries’ claims that this was an informal session, meaning “no-negotiation-text” was required as a result of Bangkok, while we read there is a major shrinking of the Arctic sea ice?

Latin American civil society builds bridges at the COP17 in Durban

Today, at the COP17, a group of Latin American platforms, networks and fora organized by the Building Bridges initiative met with delegations from Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and Panama to discuss the primary issues under negotiation including the longevity of the Kyoto Protocol, designing the Green Climate Fund and adaptation.

Mónica López Baltodano es oficial de incidencia para cambio climático del Centro Alexander von Humboldt en Nicaragua. Delegada de la red SUSWATCH para las negociaciones internacionales en la Convención Marco de Naciones Unidas sobre Cambio Climático (CMNUCC), miembro del Consejo Administrativo de Climate Action Network Latinoamérica (CANLA) y miembro activo de Accra Caucus on Forests and Climate Change y la Alianza Nicaragüense ante el Cambio Climático (ANACC). Abogada y Máster en Estudios Políticos Aplicados.

Mónica López-Baltodano is an officer for climate change advocacy at the Humboldt Center in Nicaragua. She is also a delegate for international climate change negotiations of the UNFCCC for the SUSWATCH (Sustainability Observatory) network, a member of the committee for CAN-LA (Climate Action Network, Latin America), and an active member of the Accra Caucus on Forests and Climate Change and the Nicaraguan Alliance to face Climate Change (ANACC). Mónica trained as a lawyer and has a Masters in Applied Political Studies.
